Tips for learning by Bible Doctrine Section (“Study” vs “Alpha” sequence).

Posted on

In 2019 Quizzers will be learning in Doctrine Section order, NOT by Bible verse order. A Bible Doctrine Section contains random verses from across the Bible that support the Doctrine topic. For example here are the verses for Topics Senior Quizzing 1A – 1C:

1A – God Himself is the Author of the Bible. It is the Word of God. ----------------------------------

Exodus 24:12, Deuteronomy 6:6 – 9, Psalms 19:7 – 10, Hebrews 4:12

1B – Men wrote the words of the Bible as they were divinely inspired by God. ------------------

Exodus 34:27, Deuteronomy 27:3, Joshua 24:26, 1 Samuel 10:25, Isaiah 30:8, Jeremiah 30:1 – 2, Luke 1:1 – 3, 2 Timothy 3:16 – 17. Hebrews 1:1, 2 Peter 1:20 – 21

1C – The Bible is without error. It is the word of salvation and will be true and useful forever.-

Psalms 12:6, Psalms 19:8, Psalms 119:9, Psalms 119:89, Psalms 119:105, Psalms 119:130, Proverbs 30:5, Isaiah 40:8, Luke 21:33, John 15:3, John 17:17, John 20:30 – 31, Romans 1:16, Romans 15:4, 1 Corinthians 10:11, Hebrews 4:12, 1 Peter 1:25, 2 Peter 1:19

First, notice that for Senior Quizzers there are repeated verses. Psalms 19:8 and Hebrews 4:12 from section 1A are repeated in section 1C. In section 1c these verses are in a light gray font, which means the verses have already occurred and therefore learned by the quizzer. There are 540 unique verses for Senior Experienced quizzers and 427 unique verses for Senior Intermediate Quizzers. The Junior division verses of study DOES NOT contain repeated verses. There are 281 verses for the Junior division and 176 verses for the Beginner division.

Because the Quizzers are learning by Doctine Section, our 2019 materials will be provided in “study” order (Doctrine Section order). This “study” sequence, while essential for Quizzers, can be a challenge for coaches and parents to quickly find a verse. For instance, Acts 2:38 doesn’t appear until Section 3G, and is also found in Sections 3H, 3H1, 3I (for Seniors). To quickly find Acts 2:38 you would need to know which Section to look in. In order to make verses easier to find for 2019 we are providing an “Alpha” Bible book, chapter, verse sequence for coaches and parents. This puts the verses of study in book, chapter, verse order, with the books of the Bible in alphabetical order (Acts thru Zephaniah), NOT Bible order. This has the advantages of putting the Book of Acts (contains the most verses of study) first, and making it easier for those that are unable to recall the books of the Bible in biblical sequence quickly.

For 2019, each of our Color-Coded Page sets and Pocket Verses will be available in “study” (indicated with an “s” suffix) and “alpha” (indicated with an “a” suffix) sequence. In summary, “Study is for Quizzers” and “Alpha is for Coaches/Parents”.

For 2019, questions will still be asked using the reference (either stated or inferred), and will NOT be asked by Bible Doctrine section. Therefore, a Quizzer may also benefit from the “alpha” sequence, as it groups all the verses from a book/chapter together and also gives them a different way to quote their verses as their learning progresses.

Please keep this information in mind when ordering your 2019 materials.
